Greetings from Scout, my geriatric pup who went to the vet to have one tooth pulled and ended up getting SEVEN teeth pulled. This poor dog.
Writing Update: I am on submission!
Waiting is HARD. I am already an impatient person. But this? Impatient x10000. Thankfully, my agent keeps a meticulous spreadsheet with updates so I don’t have to bother her every other day for news.
This step is THRILLING. I’ve waited years to be here. It’s surreal to go to ArtHouse Literary’s website and see MY FACE amongst the listed clients.
But this step is also interminable and nerve-wracking and so prone to making me feel helpless. Whatever happens next is truly out of my hands. How do I cope?
By writing the next book!
Who's interested in a spicy sapphic YA romcom set in college?
What if I told you this project is if Chappell Roan's "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" album were a novel (complete with bisexual rep, freshman year shenanigans, poets, and painters)?
I’ve already had a blast diving into this one. The playlist I made never fails to pump me up for a writing session. My goal is to have a first draft done by the end of April so I can fix it up and send it off to Esty (who is also into Chappell Roan, because Esty is cool like that). And maybe by then I’ll have submission news, who knows?

Writing Update: Captain Darling behind-the-scenes!
You guys. This play.
I already know I’m going to cry the first time I see it performed in its entirety. Every single person involved in this production is putting their heart and soul into getting each detail right. Every. Single. Person.
The stage combat is INCREDIBLE. And I wrote a lot of stage combat. But Terri McIntyre, our fight director, has worked through every instance of violence to tell an intentional story through the actors’ physicality. I’m in awe of how fast the actors have picked up such complex, intricate choreography. It’s going to be stunning.
And these costumes?? This is just a sneak peek of more to come as designs are finalized.
Life Update: I’m going to grad school???
I’m not able to announce where I’ll go (yet), but I received my first official acceptance from a school I’d love to attend, and I could not be more excited about it!!
Even after weeks and months of polishing my application materials for MFA programs in Playwriting, I’ve been holding my breath. (Yes, on top of waiting for submission updates, I’ve also been waiting for grad school updates!) I knew a lot of the programs I applied to were highly selective. I had a lot of self-doubt about whether I even had enough playwriting experience to get in anywhere.
But that anxiety was unfounded! Even if I get rejected from every other school on my list, I know I’ll be happy with where I end up in the fall.
More news to come next month . . .

Question: what do paid subscribers want for their perks?
To those of you who have already generously decided to become paid subscribers, a thousand thank yous!! Now that I do have multiple paying followers . . . what kind of perks would you like to see?
I had a few ideas floating around in my head—exclusive excerpts from writing projects, video content, character cameos named after subscribers, etc.—but I didn’t solidify anything because I honestly wasn’t expecting to have anyone pay so soon!
But since you are paying already, I figured it was only fair that you get a say. I can’t make any promises, but shoot me an email or DM on Instagram if you have requests!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I am so excited for you!! And super proud!
(I also feel like Monica when she goes to that college class with Phoebe. "I know! I know! I know!")
Kate! I'm so excited and curious! Keep us posted.
